Local Industries & Workplace Risks
Health care and social assistance is Logan's largest employing industry, with about 24,500 local jobs in 2024/25, followed by construction (about 18,500) and retail trade (about 17,500). Construction and retail each make up a larger share of local jobs in Logan than they do across Queensland.
- Health, aged care and disability support – Logan Hospital at Meadowbrook, plus aged care, disability and community care services.
- Construction – housing, civil and commercial building work.
- Retail and hospitality – including the Logan Hyperdome at Shailer Park, the largest shopping centre in Logan City.
- Manufacturing, warehousing and logistics – industrial areas in Crestmead, Park Ridge, Berrinba and Loganholme, near the Logan Motorway and the M1.
Neighbouring Yatala, south-east of Beenleigh, is in the City of Gold Coast, but the same Queensland workers' compensation scheme generally covers workers injured in its industrial estates.
Common Workplace Injuries in Logan
Injuries tend to follow the work:
- Hospitals, aged care and disability support – lifting and repositioning people can cause back injuries and shoulder injuries, while occupational violence or distressing events can lead to a psychological injury.
- Building sites – falls from height, falling objects and plant can cause fractures, knee injuries and head injuries. See our construction injury guide.
- Warehouses, factories and shops – repeated picking, packing and scanning can lead to repetitive strain injuries, and wet floors or loading docks to slips and falls.
- Driving for work – a crash on the M1 or Logan Motorway can cause neck and whiplash injuries and may involve both a WorkCover claim and a CTP claim.
Our WorkCover claims guide sets out each step.
